"My philosophy is to provide simple, quality work at reasonable prices.”
Tom has now worked in the carpentry industry for ten years. Starting out with T.Power Carpentry five years ago and the business has expanded year on year, as has his experience, knowledge and efficiency.
He demands high standards in all aspects of his work from the safety of personnel, to the quality of workmanship. Having a first hand understanding of problems encountered by trade colleagues is essential, promoting, efficiency, team spirit, communications, and amicable working practices between himself, his employees and all the other trades.
Most jobs require working in close cooperation with Architects and all the other building trades including Plasterers, Electricians, Plumbers etc. as well as other Carpenters. T.Power Carpentry have a good understanding of all the other trades which is crucial.
Tom began in Carpentry at the age of 16 and always new what he wanted to do, due to enjoying woodwork at school. His father is a plumber and whilst he enjoyed working with him in the summer holidays, his heart was with woodwork.
Tom started his first job with a builder not being able to find a carpenter to take him on. Although the buider did a fair bit of carpentry work, he also carried out all ‘the wet trades’: plastering, rendering brickwork etc. This was to hold him in good stead for the future.
After a year Tom managed to secure a job with a master carpenter who specialised in loft conversions, but had a good background as a cabinet maker/joiner and was very well respected. With this carpenter he learned about the joinery side of the craft.
The three most important factors in this profession were learnt with this master carpenter:
"If you are going to make something, make sure you do it with the best quality wood; think it through, so you do it right the first time; build it so it lasts a life time."
